Cardiff Logistics firm promotes and encourages growth from within

As part of Palletways UK’s commitment to training, upskilling and nurturing talent from within, Palletways Cardiff has made two key appointments that will grow the logistics business across Wales and strengthen its market position during 2023.

Matt Carter, announced as Palletways new Commercial Depot Manager for Cardiff, has been promoted after a seven-year run as Sales Manager at Palletways Bristol.

A new face to Palletways is Sharon Askey, who joined the Cardiff business as operations manager last year and has been promoted to Operations Depot Manager.

Matt and Sharon bring a wealth of industry experience and a demonstratable history within the logistics and FMCG sector, that will play an instrumental role in the success of the Cardiff business. They’ll be jointly responsible for the day-to-day running of the operation at Atlantic Way, the depots’ financial performance and continuing to deliver service excellence for which Palletways is renowned.

Matt said: “I couldn’t be happier to remain part of the Palletways family which has invested greatly in my development, allowed me to learn new skills and hone my experience. Upskilling and regular training is a common thread that runs throughout the Palletways business. It isn’t uncommon to work in different departments so you can experience all facets of the business – this makes for a rounded logistician and I feel more skilled as a result.”

Rob Gittins, managing director for Palletways UK said: “The Cardiff depot is a solid contributor towards the success of the Palletways UK network, working hard to deliver excellent customer service to numerous customers across the South Wales region.

“It is great to see Matt’s career progress and there is no doubt that the skills he gained during his time at Palletways Bristol will benefit the team tremendously in Cardiff. His knowledge and experience will only enhance its current market position.”

Concluding, Sharon said: “I’m keen to help build on Palletways service offering and operational efficiency, attract new business and strengthen the brand in South Wales. I am looking forward to continuing to work closely with the talented team at Palletways Cardiff and going the extra mile for our customers.”

Palletways encourages upskilling and training for all grades of staff. It delivers a range of industry-recognised and accredited training to ensure staff are equipped with the tools and knowledge to progress within their careers and work safely and effectively for their customers.

Courses can be taken at any time and range from the accredited Transport Manager CPC to FLT driving training, Mental Health First Aiding and sales and customer service training. Palletways has recently launched a bespoke Emerging Leaders Programme, which is a six month course aimed at rising talent in the business that can be supported and given the skills to become future leaders within the business.
